 How to address your idol

RELATED : Sajangnim (Mr. Boss)? Why Koreans address by the title and not the name?

Example) GD 오빠, 안녕하세요?

> 형 – If you are a younger male addressing an older male idol.
Example) Tony 형, 안녕하세요?

> 누나 – If you are a younger male addressing an older female idol.
Example)
BoA 누나, 만나서 반가워요!

> 언니 – If you are a younger female addressing an older female idol.
Example) Jenny 언니, 정말 예뻐요!

> ~씨 – If you want to address someone you don’t know in a formal way using the name.

How to choose the proper direct object particle
“을/를”

> If your word ends with a vowel (ㅏ/ㅑ/ㅓ/ㅕ/ㅗ/ㅛ/ㅜ/ㅠ/ㅡ/ㅣ/ㅒ/ㅖ/ㅘ/ㅙ/ㅝ/ㅞ/ㅚ/ㅟ/ㅢ), use “를”

Example) 소미 (Somi) 를, 오빠 (oppa) 를, 나 (na) 를

> If your word ends with a consonant, use “을”

*It’s not the English spelling that matters. The rule applies to how the Korean word ends. For example, while 컴퓨터 (computer) is spelled to end with a consonant in English, the Korean word ends with a vowel “ㅓ”. Hence you use “를”

Example) 빅뱅 (Big Bang) 을, 지드래곤 (G-Dragon)을, SM 타운 (SM Town) 을 How to choose the proper topic particle “는/은”

> If your word ends with a vowel, use “는”
Example) 바나나 (banana) 는, 오빠 (oppa) 는, 블랙핑크 (Black Pink) 는

*Again, while Black Pink ends with a consonant in English, it ends with a vowel
“ㅡ” in Korean. Hence you use “는”

> If your words ends with a consonant, use “은”

Example) 빅뱅 (Big Bang) 은, 지드래곤 (G-Dragon) 은, 레드벨벳 (Red Velvet) 은. How to choose the proper subject particle

“이/가”

> If your word ends with a vowel, use “가”
Example) GD 오빠 (GD oppa) 가, 아이유 언니 (IU unnie) 가

> If your words ends with a consonant, use “이”

Example) 빅뱅 (Big Bang) 이, 레드벨벳 (Red Velvet) 이.
