Korean Verbs and Conjugation Rules : FUTURE -ㄹ/을 거야 PROPOSITIVE -으/세요

Korean Verbs and Conjugation Rules : FUTURE

  • Drop the 다 ending from the verb stem
  • If the verb ends in a vowel or 을, add ㄹ to the verb stem
  • You don’t need to add anything to verbs ending in ㄹ, though

Casual formality

Verb (ending inㅏ/ㅗ) + ㄹ 거야

Verb (ending in anything else) + 을 거야

Polite Low Formality

Verb (ending inㅏ/ㅗ) + ㄹ 거예요

Verb (ending in anything else) + 을 거예요

Polite High Formality

Verb (ending in a vowel)+ ㄹ 겁니다 or

Verb ending in a consonant) + 을 겁니다

EXAMPLE)

가다 — to go
Casual formality: 갈 거야
Polite low formality: 갈 거예요
Polite high formality: 갈 겁니다

읽다 — to read
Casual formality: 읽을 거야
Polite low formality: 읽을 거예요
Polite high formality: 읽을 겁니다

하다 — to do
Casual formality: 할 거야
Polite low formality: 할 거예요
Polite high formality: 할 겁니다
